It was another record-breaking night for Cristiano Ronaldo on a day where he was taunted by Robbie Keane who was topping the qualifying goal scoring chart.
The Juventus forward scored four goals as Portugal cruised past Lithuania to take his overall tally to 25 in European qualifying – two more than the previous record set by former Republic of Ireland striker Keane.
Before the match, Keane posted on Instagram requesting Ronaldo to leave his record as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was two goals shy of his tally at 23.
Ronaldo went ahead to smash his record with two more as a cherry on top of the cake meaning he has now scored against 40 different countries.
Ronaldo has now scored 93 international goals, 16 behind Iran legend Ali Daei’s world record in men’s football and is also the first European to score 90 goals for his country.
Portugal beat Lithuania 5-1 to go second in group B below Ukraine with a game in hand.
